  1. As, eighth grade students we constantly face two major problems in our school work: Procrastination and Distractions. I’m sure that all of you can agree with me, when I say that we have definitely become lazier, languid, lethargic and less independent over the years. Yes, every generation and cohort has their faults, but I feel that we have many time-management problems in our daily lives, when we try to juggle so many things. We constantly put things off and leave it for another day, when we feel that we have sufficiently enough time. We say that that we will do it “later” even if we have the time to do it at the moment. Soon enough that day approaches and we may not realize what happened to all the time that we wasted. When we put something off, and procrastinate about it, we may end up missing out on that chance. This may lead to us losing out on something. We may end up missing that assignment or opportunity.

We put off what we can undertake today, just because we don’t feel like it. This may turn into a very bad habit that will end up harming us in the future if we continue to do so. Procrastinating is not a good way of completing work because sometimes our work will be last minute work. It will not be up to the best quality work we can produce. Even though, personally sometimes I still produce great work even if I complete it the night before, it is not a good habit. I am aware that I procrastinate often as I put things off to the last minute and wait a couple days before the deadline, thinking I can complete it quickly, but I have never had an incomplete assignment. I get my act together even if it is at the last minute. I even get called “The Queen of Time Waste” by my mother because I spend time doing other non-important things, when I could be finishing work that is a higher priority and is due shortly.

This year, for example, we had to create a book, in analogy to The Pearl by John Steinbeck. I remember having the whole weekend to do it, but still I wasted, Saturday and part of the previous Friday, thinking one day would be enough to complete it. In the end, I stayed up till 4 AM, finishing that project. I learned my lesson when doing my science project though. After I got an 80 on the first part, I decided to get myself together and completed the next part a week in advance so that I could talk to my teacher and make any corrections needed before I had to hand it in.

Another interpretation of the quote is not trying new things. When we want to conquer a fear we may also have a similar reaction. For example, if we have a fear of heights, and most of your friends want to go bungee jumping, obviously, at first you will be scared. You might make excuses saying “Oh next time we come, I’ll do it” or “Maybe not today, another time.”, but in the end you may not actually end up doing it. Your chance to take a risk and overcome your fear is gone and maybe that was your only chance to do something like that. You have missed out on an important opportunity, because you made excuses and didn’t want to take the risk. For example, when we went to Universal Studios, in Florida, Orlando, I went on the Hulk roller-coaster, but my friend didn’t, even though we tried to persuade her to do so. She disregarded the opportunity to go on the ride. If I was in her place, I knew that I would have regretted it because the ride was so much fun. Who knows when we will go to Florida again? So, I was very pleased that I went on the high-speed, exhilarating roller-coaster and didn’t put it off for another time.

“Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’”, is a very important part of this quote as it shows the results of refusing or declining to do something. If you decide to put things off until the last minute, it may end up in you not finishing something. Furthermore, you may lose out on an important chance or opportunity. I think that we should all continue to attempt new things as well as refrain from procrastinating as it could end up negatively affecting us in the future.

  2. I think that the quote “Do it now Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’.” is a very motivating and inspirational quote. I look at it as a quote that encourages students to never procrastinate on assignments. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!! Procrastination is a really easy thing to do but many times, it causes a lot of problems. Procrastination is a big problem with students. I mean, come on, did you ever meet a person who does not procrastinate? I am a person who always procrastinates and it is not the best thing ever to procrastinate.I think that the quote.
For example, in my Language Arts class, we get Writer's Notebook. My teacher posts the writing topics on schoolwires like almost a month ago. eve n so, most of the students in my class hold off the Writer’s Notebook until last minute when they rush to finish it the night before. I am one of the students as well. I always finish the Writer’s Notebook the day before its due. Most of the times, this causes a problem. Whenever I do my Writer’s Notebook the day before, I sleep late. Since I sleep late, I get up late in the morning and have to rush to get to school on time. Also, doing my Writer’s Notebook the day before it due makes me sleepy in school since I didn’t get enough sleep.Even though I face these problems, I still procrastinate my Writer’s Notebook and face these problems every time. I have learned my lesson but I just do the same thing over and over again.
Many times that I have procrastinated, I have had to miss out on things that I love to do. One Saturday morning, I was in bed reading a mystery book and my mom came in and told me I had to do some chores because afterwards we had to go shopping. By the way, I love going shopping! I was reading a mystery book and was on the suspenseful part. I mean, no one wants to leave a good, mystery book to do chores. So I just replied, “ I will do it later.” About an 1 hour later, I was still reading my book and I didn’t do my chores. My mom came in my room and said, “ Raashi, I am going to the mall. Since you didn’t do you chores, your dad will stay at home and wait until you finish your chores.” That was a shock and I couldn’t do anything. That day I learned a lesson; never procrastinate because if you do, you may miss out on stuff that you like to do.
All in all, I think that this quote means that you should never procrastinate. If you do, you may miss out on good opportunities and events. You may have to face problems like not getting enough sleep like I face that problem a lot. Even though I learned this lesson a lot of times, I still procrastinate. I mean, name me one person you know who doesn’t procrastinate. Most likely, 99.99% of the students in this world procrastinate. If almost everyone does it, why shouldn’t I? I still learned the lesson to never procrastinate but I never learn from my lesson and still procrastinate.

  3. Procrastination - something that’s holding us back. Procrastination - something that won’t bring out the best in us. Procrastination is both of those things. Procrastination is something that we should avoid. The quote “Do it now. Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’” perfectly gets out the point that procrastination is terrible. What good does procrastination do for you? Does it benefit you in any way? Why do people procrastinate? These questions will be answered very shortly.
Procrastination doesn’t benefit you at all. It only gives you stress and even and irresponsible profile. If people know that you procrastinate on everything, people will think that you don’t want to do work and that you only do it because you have to. If teachers, especially, know that you do your work at the last minute, they will think that you aren’t responsible enough to do work immediately. You may not be trustworthy in their eyes. If you procrastinate on something, it will always be on your mind. You will think about that all day until the time that the thing is due. It can make you stressed thinking about all that you have to do. Even though it can make you stressed, people still wait for the last second to do something. I don’t know why but that’s just human nature. People want to have fun for as long as possible so they push off work to the side so they can enjoy their time. It is just a distraction so they don’t have to do any work.
I, myself, procrastinate which makes me sound like a hypocrite. I will be the first one to admit that I do, indeed, procrastinate. We should all admit that, too. I try to do my work on time, but sometimes, I just don’t feel like doing it. Laziness conquers responsibility some of the time. For example, I might hold off on something because I am watching TV or Netflix. I might watch an episode and then in the middle of watching it, I tell myself that I’ll do my homework after this episode. Then I end up seeing the next episode…and the next episode…and the next episode… and the loop never ends. I end up doing my homework at around nine o’clock which is still pretty late. When I was in elementary school, I used to do my homework immediately after school. In middle school, I gradually started to procrastinate. It all started on one day and then it became a habit. The problem is that procrastination is not only a problem - it’s also an addiction.
If we wait to do our work or anything we don’t want to do, we might never do it at all. We might just forget about it. If it’s extremely important, that would create a problem. This means that we should just do it now. We might never know if we have another chance to do it. We should never take the risk of waiting for “later” to come. The next time you wait for the last minute, remember - “later” might not exist.

  4. After completing nearly 2 years in this school I believe that most of us have been led to procrastination and laziness whenever we have a due date for a project or a worksheet due. However, when we get so caught up in unnecessary things like Netflix and YouTube we just get so carried away we rush to finish what we put off for nearly 3 hours. This not only applies to school however but also to us in general. We get scared to try new things and do stuff we wouldn’t normally do. In life, we need to take risks in order to succeed because without failing you will never learn something from that experiences. It is our failures that lead us to become better people.
This quote applies to many students in middle school because we get so caught up in social media and our phones that we barely get any time to do our school work. We hold it off till the last minute then rush to finish it and barely put any effort into it. Having an attitude like this is definitely something that will bring you down and hinder you in the years to come whether it is in High School or College. We need to get ahead of our work and try our best to finish it way before the deadline comes otherwise we have no one else to blame for this pile of work except for ourselves.
However, this quote not only applies to kids that are in school but to also people who live in the ordinary with the same thing everyday and no “spice” in their life. Those people need to get out there and try new things and see what they like and what they don’t like otherwise they might not know what they are missing out on. Life comes and goes and before you know it you will be at old age and you might be thinking to yourself of how different your life be of you tried new things or if you went out of the ordinary. I try my best to not miss out on anything and I open myself to new things all the time. Instead of having this for dinner maybe try something else or instead of doing my work on Thursday try starting it on Tuesday. It’s the little things like that which make a difference in your overall life.
In conclusion, I do whatever I can to get the most out of my life. I try not to procrastinate and hold back on doing work. I learned from previous experiences that whenever you stay in one same spot for all of your life you never get better and you never are really changing. It seems as if you are stuck in mud and the only thing you can do to get out is try to be different. In this world of brilliant and highly intelligent people, it is the differences that make each one of us special.

  5. Don’t you just love procrastinating? I know I do! But sometimes, I procrastinate way too much. When that happens, I either miss out on an opportunity, or I just negatively affect myself. Although I’d say I’ve become slightly more productive recently, I still procrastinate a lot, and I usually end up having to rush through something to get it done in time. In my opinion, this quote includes a priceless lesson about life; never procrastinate, and if you have to do something, do it right away or you might just end up ruining your chances of experiencing something new or anything at all.

Before I came slightly more productive, my dad would frequently yell, “Leanna, can you take the dog out?” My usual response was “Yeah, later. I’ll get up in a few seconds.” I was almost always using my phone whenever that happened, and I was too lazy to even get up from my chair. I would finish procrastinating a few minutes after that only to find out that my dad had taken the dog out instead because he had grown tired of waiting for me to get up. This might seem like a minor thing, and it is. However, whenever I think back to these moments, I am reminded that just one word can cause you to miss out on something. And that one word is “later.”

It is difficult to manage times of relaxation and times of productivity. For the most part, I procrastinate more than when I actually do work. I usually have to do writing journals for my Language Arts class, which have a certain number of topics every week or so. If you know what you’ll be writing, then finishing a topic should take about 30 minutes, which isn’t too long. If I put a lot of effort into finishing a topic, then I would be done with it quickly. However, since I never really put much effort into them, it takes me a few hours to complete it because I constantly goof off doing other things such as playing video games or using social media. Eventually, I would get to the point where I have no idea what I’m writing anymore, and then everything just becomes a mess. At that moment, all I’d want to do is goof off some more, so I’d just rush through the topic so I could get back to doing absolutely nothing. And just like that, the quality of my work went down greatly.

In fact, I had procrastinated quite a lot during our projects about the history of Earth. Most of the time I had was spent on chatting with friends, and I had to rush to finish my part, since I also still had homework from other classes that I needed to complete by the next day. I had to stay up later than usual, and I was very tired in the morning as a result. Luckily, I still had some time left to take a quick nap, but if I didn’t have time to do so, then I’d be having a hard time in school because of how tired I would be.

I believe that the message that this quote is trying to spread is that procrastinating is never a good thing. When you procrastinate, you are throwing away the precious time in which you could’ve gotten so many important things done. You also might miss out on several things just because you didn’t feel like doing something right away, and nobody wants to miss out on new and important things. Although this quote is only made up of seven words, it means a million words about an important life lesson that everyone needs to learn in order to live life to its fullest.

  6. You can clearly tell that this quote is telling us NOT to procrastinate. Everyone knows that procrastinating is bad and it is one of those horrible qualities of laziness, but no matter how hard we try, procrastinating is one of those things that is hard to forget. The quote “Do it now. Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’” makes a really good point. When our teachers assign us something that is due at the end of the week, you think that 1: you have plenty of time to complete it later or 2:it isn’t that important. But when we remember that it is due the very next day, we go under stress and freak out. We tend to say that we will do it later but it always turns out that we do it at the last minute.
I admit it. I procrastinate on everything! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t procrastinate! This situation usually happens on students in middle school and high school rather than students in elementary school. Even if someone gives you a lot of time to finish something, we still procrastinate. It’s like we know we should do it when we are in stress, which is always one thing we don’t want. When I am doing things during the last minute, I am under stress and I know I have to complete it by the end of that day no matter what, so I work faster. But on days I have a lot of time to do something, I just relax because I am under no pressure.
My language arts teacher would have us do two to five essays that are due at the end of every week. Most of the times, I would just start them the day before it is due. Because I start them too late, I don’t finish at the end of the day. I have to wake up extra early just to finish my essays. That day, I am completely tired. Procrastination leads to no good.
The only way to stop procrastinating is by being determined to complete it way ahead of time or with proper time management. Setting up a goal can make you determined. Also, you can use proper time management. If you have to do any activities, try to hold them back and do them later. Completing everything for school is more important. A tip is to finish what is more important first. It’s like eating candy. You always eat the good ones first.
Currently we are writing letters to fifth graders about how it is like in middle school and we give them advice. I gave them advice to use time management skills and not to procrastinate. I don’t want them making the same mistakes as me.
The funny part about procrastinating is that even if we regret us procrastinating before, we still do it again. In conclusion, procrastinating is bad. My goal is not procrastinate, but so far I am not close to achieving it. Remember: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!
